Geropotamos Beach is a lovely cove 18 kilometers east of Rethymno town, just off the National Highway leading to Heraklion. The beach is easily accessible by automobile and is located beneath the Geropotamos bridge.
The waters are clean, but they are deep and dangerous for youngsters. The beach is generally sandy, however there are some pebbled parts. The beach is impacted by northern breezes in the summer, known as meltemia, which is a common occurrence in Greece, especially during the summer.
It’s somewhat organized; most of the time, you’ll notice a few palm-tree-shaped umbrellas. A few hotels are found close by and ever fewer taverns. This beach owes its name to Geropotamos river, which flows into this sea.
