Chromonastiri

A community 12 kilometers from Rethymno with its unique history. The well-preserved village spreads out at 360 meters height to the north east of Vrisinas mountain.

The medieval community is alive with 360 residents. The Clodio villa, which used to be a palace and the summer residence of a noble Venetian family, is an important landmark with Renaissance structures and Venetian architecture. On the outskirts, there are two Byzantine churches.

The one depicting Virgin Mary has wall paintings from the 11th and 14th centuries, while the other depicts Saint Eftihios, one of Crete’s oldest. The folk collection is also worth seeing.
