Plaka is a settlement in the Cretan region of Lasithi. It is located in the municipality of Agios Nikolaos, in the community of Vrouchas. It is adjacent to the historical island of Spinalonga and the town of Elounda. The ancient towns of Olous and Lato, which are now in ruins, lie nearby, and Dorian communities were constantly at odds over territorial concerns. Every day, tourist boats travel from Plaka for Spinalonga. It takes around 10 minutes to travel by boat one way.
The settlement is featured significantly in Victoria Hislop’s novel The Island and its television adaption To Nisi.
