The Fortress of Izzedin, an amazing protective structure built by Reouf Pasha during the Cretan Revolution of 1866, is located next to a tiny picturesque town near to Chania city Kalami. The little town of Kalami is located 10 kilometers west of Chania Town and adjacent to Souda. It’s a little community by the sea with a few residents, stone cottages, and paved streets.
A tiny sandy beach is within walking distance of Kalami, as is the huge beach of Kalyves, which is only a short drive away. The local Kalami beach is small (about 150 meters long) and sandy. Because there are no dining alternatives nearby, you should bring food with you. There are several sun loungers and umbrellas on the beach.
